Easter Lilies will be placed on the Altar on Easter Sunday 4th April: if you would like to remember a loved one, please let Louise Fox, Margie Wall or Anne Harvey know;

The flower rota will be recommencing when the church re opens in April – any queries, please contact Margie Wall;

We are seeking new members for our Parochial Church Council (PCC). If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please contact any of the current members: Bart Hellyer; Margie Wall; Louise Fox; Richard Thatcher; Andy Hoult; David Harvey; Anne Harvey. This is a great opportunity to be involved in a range of aspects and decision making about the church, including its future development. After 20 years, Maggie Mortell is stepping down (having moved out of the village 4 years ago!) We would like to thank her for her commitment and service and look forward to seeing her at Morning Prayer on Sunday 25th April;

Church cleaning rota: thank you, this month, to: Karen Baines; Anne Harvey; Jacky Morrell. We are due for a ‘Deep Clean’ w/c 29th March and 5th April so if anyone can spare an hour or two, we would be most grateful;

Following suggestions and discussions a new sound system will shortly be provided for the church. Thank you to Graham Madgwick for his advice and support.

CHURCHES COUNT ON NATURE: JUNE 5TH-13TH

Inspired by Winter Watch?

Fancy having a go at bird spotting, bat counting, “fishing” for insects, identifying plants? Ridlington is going to be involved with a nature recording project in early June. The idea is for local people to discover and record the wonderful plants and wildlife in Ridlington’s church yard – no previous experience required and open to all, no matter their age. More details to follow…

FOOD BANK COLLECTION – MARCH 17TH 2021

A huge thank you for the very generous donations to the Foodbank collection last month – we filled three boxes with various goodies.

The next collection is on St Patrick’s Day – Wednesday, 17th March.  As well as the old favourites of Fray Bentos pies and microwaveable steam puddings I have been advised that the Foodbank store is short of dog food and adult toothbrushes.

Please continue to give generously – your support makes the world of difference. Thank you.

LANDS END TO JOHN O’GROATS

An Update from Anne Harvey

I have registered to take part in the ‘End to End’ Land’s End to John O Groats Virtual Run (874 miles) and hope to raise money for Cancer Research and Church Funds.

The event started on October 26th and ends up to 12 months later, although I am now ahead of schedule in spite of the snow in February!

I duly made it to Cannock Chase and as I write for the March month’s magazine, I have now clocked up over 475 miles and am approaching Kendal in the Lake District.

I am also pleased to report that I have improved my position to 554th out of 1,934 starters. Please message me if you would like to donate to either of the 2 causes above. Thank you.

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

Something a little different this month – some non-fiction books as well as a novel.

Fancy a new hobby? “Chicken Breeds and Care” by Frances Bassom is a mini encyclopaedia providing practical guidance on keeping chickens together with profiles and lovely photographs of many major breeds.

Or how about shaking things up in the kitchen? “The Reader’s Digest Guide to Creative Cooking and Entertaining” provides recipes for every occasion from breakfast through to picnics and barbeques. If we can’t travel it doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy Kotopoulo Kapama, a chicken casserole from Greece, or Yakitori, grilled marinated chicken from Japan. Lots of enticing recipes to try.

This month’s novel is “In Pale Battalions” by Robert Goddard. It’s a well plotted thriller – a number of twists and surprises, with secrets within secrets. A very satisfactory read and two mysteries: who’s the daddy? And who’s the killer?

If you would like to borrow or buy a book please contact Debra Thatcher 01572 823910 or email debrathatcher@hotmail.com to arrange delivery.
