Ridlington Village – Results and Successes

There have been some successful outcomes from some of the events held in the village which we would like to share.

WILD GARDEN
Well done to all the volunteers who helped with Phase 1 of the wild garden on the north side of the church. We give especial thanks to Debra Thatcher and Jacky Morrell for their expertise and to everyone else for their wiling manpower.  Phase 2 will take place at the end of November, including the planting of yellow rattle. If you would like to become involved in this project, please contact Debra, Jacky or Anne Harvey.

SMALLS FOR ALL
Thank you to everyone who donated to this new and worthy cause and to Debra Thatcher for organising and hosting (especially the delicious cakes!) You donated over 88 ‘smalls’ in the event, which Debra will now forward to the Smalls for All Charity. This is going to be an annual event, to be held each OCTOBER – so please hang on to those ‘unwanted undies.’

VILLAGE HALL QUIZ
An enjoyable evening saw the misnamed ‘Clueless’ team from the village winning. Lovely food and £323 raised for the hall funds. Big thanks to those who helped in every way and to those who took part.

RUNNING CLUB:
Our Running Club is going from strength to strength and some completed the Rutland Water 10k Nightrun through the wind and wet with some impressive times! Martin Wall completed his first Parkrun last month and his amazing result was reported on their Facebook page. Our next ‘event’ is the Rutland Water 5k Parkrun event on New Year’s Day 2020. New members always welcomed 😊 – just come to the Playing Field on Saturday mornings at 9am.

The Parish Precept

The Parish Council is a tier of local government and has the ability to raise a “precept” on the council tax bills produced by the local billing authority, in our case, Rutland County Council.

The precept is the only source of tax revenue available to a Parish Council and is levied on local households to pay the Parish Council for:

  • The funding of services, for example, lighting and grass cutting;
  • Administrative costs including office expenses and the clerk’s salary, etc.; and
  • Reserves to cover unforeseen costs and future one-off expenses.
The setting of the precept will be discussed at the next Parish Council meeting to be held on Wednesday, 13th November at 7:30.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.

Temporary Road Closure Notice – Thursday, November 7th 2019

There will be a temporary road closure on sections of Holygate Road, Top Road, East Lane and Main Street in Ridlington.

It is anticipated the works will take 1 day. The closure shall come into force when the appropriate signs and diversion route are erected on site.

The duration of the Closure shall be as follows: from 7th November 2019 to 7th November 2019

The alternative route during the closure will be via the route shown on the attached plan (also available to view at the Council Office) and as shown on https://one.network

The alternative route during the closure will be via the following streets: Holygate Road, Top Road, East Lane and Main Street with a reciprocal route.

Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the work is being carried out.

The closure is to enable BTS Group to undertake tree cutting works on behalf of Western Power

Food Bank

We want to help to make sure that no one in our local community has to go hungry, and we need your help to make this happen.

We were thanked for our latest delivery to the Foodbank in Oakham and advised that the following items are requested:

Chris & Chris Waterhouse

Christopher & Christine Waterhouse have recently moved to Holt in north Norfolk. They arrived in Ridlington from Malham in Yorkshire 26 years ago with their two daughters Kate and Vicky. Both enjoyed village life and enjoyed village events particularly those involving good food and wine. Both were lovely hosts and excellent cooks!

Christopher has played for the village cricket team and also enjoyed playing pétanque up on the playing fields. He was also an enthusiastic golfer, being a member at Greetham Valley. His skills and competitive spirit will transfer to Sheringham golf club where his retirement from an engineering international sales position will see him losing his air miles! but playing much more golf and spending more time with Christine in their new home, exploring lovely Norfolk as well as going on holidays.

Christine until her retirement taught business studies at Rutland sixth form college. She was also very active and constructive in village affairs being a member of the Parish Council and Treasurer of the Village Hall Committee. Of Yorkshire stock, Christine was tenacious in pursuing issues until they were satisfactorily resolved. She was always willing to get stuck in on work parties at the hall, highlighted in its recent refurbishment.

All the village wish the family well in their new home.

Rutland County Council Prospective Councillor Event

This event is being held to help people find out what it takes to become a local councillor and will cover the nomination process and standing for election, the role of a councillor and what support is available, including allowances and training.

There will be a chance to speak with RCC Officers and Directors about council services and also the opportunity to speak to existing RCC Councillors about the role in practice.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 10th 2018 at Rutland County Council, Council Chamber, Rutland County Council, Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, Le15 6HP.

There will be two session, the first will start at 10:00 am and the second starting at 12:30 pm.

The event is open to anyone who is interested in hearing about the role of the Councillor and considering standing in the 2019 local elections.

Oakham Town Task and Finish Group Online Survey

Ridlington Village Hall Relaunch Event

The revamped village hall was opened to the public on Sunday 25th February. Some 38 villagers came to view the completed work and to enjoy the drink, nibbles and the general get together.

The committee is delighted with the positive response received and as one member of the community put it – “ Congratulations to everyone involved – a transformation!! “

Again, this work would not have been possible without the donations and time given by people within the community over the years. Thanks to them.
