We have been blessed with good weather for the four Sundays when we have organised teas in the village hall as fundraisers for the church – we have really enjoyed the events, meeting friends and making new ones.  Same again next year!

Sincere thanks to the Trustees of the Village Hall for letting us use the facility and to all those involved in setting up, baking, serving, washing up etc and particularly to Karen who masterminded the whole operation.

Thank you also for supporting the events and your very generous donations.

We raised £972.20 in total.

Debra

One for the beach – Belinda Jones’ “The Paradise Room”, easy reading.

Easy listening with a double CD of Jane Austen’s “Lady Susan” read by, amongst others, Harriet Walter.

Two murder mysteries – the first from one of my favourite writers- PD James’ “ The Private Patient”, an Adam Dalgliesh detective novel, full of suspense; and secondly, Alex Gray’s “Still Dark” set in Glasgow with a number of plot lines that are skilfully drawn together.

“Sangria at the Bus Stop” led to a few villagers enthusiastically showing up on Monday morning July 8th armed with steam cleaners and various dubious tools to tackle a Big Clean Up of the Bus shelter and The Village Green.

Work began promptly at 10:00 steam cleaning the shelter and benches, trimming the grass around the edges and curbs of the street, repairing and treating the wood, cleaning the signs and giving a sad old sign a newly painted refresh. But the biggest job was bringing back the footpath to a cleaner wider shape yet keeping it “au naturel”. So a BIG THANK YOU to all who came out to HELP OUT.

Instead of Sangria, the team were rewarded with delicious cake copiously washed down with coffee and tea; even that elusive sun came out in the end. There is still more work to be done and there are more plans afoot, so stay tuned or feel free to contact one of the “Talking Gardens” team.

There will be  “Open Gardens” on the afternoon of Sunday, 25th August 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm with teas in Ridlington Village hall.  £5 will be the entry fee but there will be no charge for children under 16 and dogs.

Offers to help with car parking and teas, please contact Debra Thatcher.

CHURCH FLOWERS
Thank you very much to all of the ladies who decorate the church with flowers. The arrangements enhance our services and look so welcoming for all who visit the church.

This month we thank Jan Powley, Jackie Ike and Victoria Bullimore.

THANK YOU to all who

  • continue to support the collection for the Food Bank,
  • have helped bake, serve and wash up at the fundraising teas at the village hall to raise funds for the church and
  • volunteered to help with the Great Mow of the churchyard and to all who contributed the goodies for the ploughman’s tea that followed.

CHURCH FUNDRAISING
Teas will be served at the Village Hall on the afternoons of Sunday, 11th August.  Offers to help with baking, serving and washing up please let Debra Thatcher know.

The next collection from the church porch will be on Wednesday, 14th August.  Please continue to donate generously.

Thank you.
