BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

Unusually kicking off with a classic children’s book Kenneth Grahame’s,  “Wind in the Willows” – inspired by Mole ‘s statement “Hang spring cleaning!”.  Enchanting, although I found the illustrations disappointing.

The second this month is a crime writer who had hitherto been unknown to me  – Victoria Walters, one of her Dedley End mystery books – “Murder at the Village Church”, a locked-room puzzle.  Easy reading for a winter’s afternoon.

Concluding with another Agatha Christie “The Pale Horse” – a standalone novel where the investigator is Mark Easterbrook; enjoyed it more on re-reading it.

VILLAGE HALL

A warm thank you to the anonymous person who has given the Village Hall a new bench to commemorate our new King’s Coronation  and to Debra Thatcher & the Parish Council for arranging its installation.

Somewhere nice to rest at one of the country’s prettiest village halls.

FOOD BANK

Once again your generosity, especially in the run up to Christmas, was stunning – thank you so much for your generosity in 2023.

Unfortunately, the Food Bank continues to need our assistance – please continue to donate.

Collection dates will be displayed in the church porch.

CHURCH FLOWERS

A big thank you to all those on the church flower rota for their contributions throughout 2023. You have made our church look very attractive and so welcoming; there is such talent in the village which was very evident at the time of the King’s coronation in May. Your inspired and thoughtful arrangements are much appreciated by the village folk and visitors.

VILLAGE CHRISTMAS CARD SCHEME

As in previous years, we are running a village Christmas card scheme.  The idea is that you send one card to everyone in the village which will be displayed in the church porch and make a donation. The monies donated will be shared between the three village charities – Church, Playing Field and Village Hall.

If you wish to do this, please give the cards and donations to Debra Thatcher at 3 Main Street.

Many thanks,

Season’s Greetings!
