LANDS END TO JOHN O’GROATS

An Update from Anne Harvey

I have registered to take part in the ‘End to End’ Land’s End to John O Groats Virtual Run (874 miles) and hope to raise money for Cancer Research and Church Funds.

The event started on October 26th and ends up to 12 months later, although I am now ahead of schedule in spite of the snow in February!

I duly made it to Cannock Chase and as I write for the March month’s magazine, I have now clocked up over 475 miles and am approaching Kendal in the Lake District.

I am also pleased to report that I have improved my position to 554th out of 1,934 starters. Please message me if you would like to donate to either of the 2 causes above. Thank you.

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

Something a little different this month – some non-fiction books as well as a novel.

Fancy a new hobby? “Chicken Breeds and Care” by Frances Bassom is a mini encyclopaedia providing practical guidance on keeping chickens together with profiles and lovely photographs of many major breeds.

Or how about shaking things up in the kitchen? “The Reader’s Digest Guide to Creative Cooking and Entertaining” provides recipes for every occasion from breakfast through to picnics and barbeques. If we can’t travel it doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy Kotopoulo Kapama, a chicken casserole from Greece, or Yakitori, grilled marinated chicken from Japan. Lots of enticing recipes to try.

This month’s novel is “In Pale Battalions” by Robert Goddard. It’s a well plotted thriller – a number of twists and surprises, with secrets within secrets. A very satisfactory read and two mysteries: who’s the daddy? And who’s the killer?

If you would like to borrow or buy a book please contact Debra Thatcher 01572 823910 or email debrathatcher@hotmail.com to arrange delivery.
