INFORMATION FROM RUTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

The County Council’s website (www.rutland.gov.uk) is being re-organised to make more readily available helpful information:

  • For businesses, employers and the self-employed including links to funding and grants.  RCC has already paid £3.5million of grant payments to 306 local businesses.  See also, www.businesssupport.gov.uk;
  • For individuals – details of neighbourhood schemes, changes and closures of Council services.  In addition, activities and material to support those educating or entertaining children can be found on the Council’s Facebook and twitter channels and on the library’s website; and
  • For volunteers – a section dedicated to signposting residents to volunteering opportunities in the county.

We have also been asked to raise awareness of The Silent Solution system, arising out of the police’s concerns of an increase in reported incidents of domestic abuse.

It has been designed for victims who might be afraid of further danger and escalation of harm if heard making a 999 call.  So, on making a 999 call and being asked by the operator which emergency service is required, press 55 and the operator will transfer the call to the relevant police force as an emergency.

SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity Helpline

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has asked us to publicise details of their confidential helpline “Forcesline”  which provides an uninterrupted telephone, email and webchat facility for those who need support or reassurance.

Once they know of a serviceperson, veteran or family in need their local branch gets in touch and provides assistance. Please see their website for further details www.ssafa.org.uk

The confidential helpline is: 0800 731 4880
