MOSAIC WORKSHOP – MARCH 23RD

The Knit and Natter Group decided to have a day out and lay their needles or whatever down to try a new skill…

Last week we had an enjoyable and fun day making a mosaic of our choice under the watchful eye of Melanie Russell a mosaic artist based in Langham.

The Workshop started with coffee and a little trepidation. Melanie gave us some insight on the craft and full instruction on how to create a mosaic. Her studio was an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful chinaware and a cornucopia of glass and ceramic beads, of all shapes, colours and sizes. You could just let your imagination run away. Some of us brought pieces of our own chinaware to create something that would serve as a memory piece, a family story and give it that personal touch.

The morning was used to design the layout and choose the pieces of broken chinaware cups and saucers. We broke for a tasty light lunch to then finish the afternoon by fixing the design in place onto a wooden mould.  Grouting would have to be done at home as time is needed between drying and grouting. Time seemed to fly by and the day was a fun, relaxing, creative way of bringing out everyone’s hidden talents.
