FLOWERS
Thank you so much to all the flower rota ladies for their beautiful arrangements throughout 2024. The church calendar has been reflected so thoughtfully by your arrangements. We say a particular thank you to Maggie Wilson and Mary Richardson who have served on the rota for many years and will be taking a well – earned rest now.  We welcome Kamilla who will be joining us.

We thank Louise Fox, Jan Powley, Julie Hoult, Pat Roome, Karen Baines, Janet Horwood  and Debra Thatcher for Christmas arrangements.

MONTHLY WALK – NOVEMBER 30th

Celebrate St Andrew’s Day (30th November) with a walk followed by light refreshments with a Scottish twist.

Meet in the church porch at 10:00.

Reflecting a Remembrance theme a mixed selection this month.

 

A fascinating military memoir, “The Last Fighting Tommy – the life of Harry Patch the only surviving veteran of the trenches” published in 2008 following a 2005 documentary.  Also based on a superb TV programme, “The World at War”.

Over turning popular myths about the outbreak of WW2 historian A.J.P.Taylor’s  “The Origins of the Second World War” caused a storm of outrage when published in 1961.

More personal recollections in “D-Day 1944” told in the words of those who were there, people of every nation, and all ranks.

Novels too, “Guernica” by Dave Boling – fictitious characters loosely stapled to historic events with the 1937 bombing and “Whisky Galore” by Compton Mackenzie – a joyous comic novel, subsequently made into two films.

Once again this year we will run the village Christmas card scheme – one card to all your friends and neighbours to be displayed in the church with donations to be shared between the Church, Village Hall and Playing Field.

This month, we thank Pat Roome and Anne Harvey for the lovely flowers on the church altar. Also, a huge Thank You to everyone who decorated the church for the Harvest Festival; I’m sure you’ll agree, it looked beautiful as ever!

FOODBANK – REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR

NEXT COLLECTION DATE IS DECEMBER 4th 2004

I realise that we’ve only just about finished Harvest and still have a couple of months to go before we celebrate Christmas but I hope you understand that at the Rutland Foodbank we would like your Christmas donations to reach us by late November/early December so we have time to distribute them in good time.

I’m pleased to attach this year’s Reverse Advent Calendar. This includes suggestions for what you might donate in the period leading up to Christmas. Please note we are not expecting anyone to donate the full calendar, rather that you team up with your family & friends or a local group to collect between you.

As the nights get darker and the weather cooler we know that there will be more households having to make difficult choices to eat or heat so we are expecting to be busy. Our wonderful volunteers (as always) are ready to respond and help those who are struggling across Rutland. Due to the wonderful support across the county we are still able to pack and deliver a 7-day emergency food & toiletries parcel.

In the coming weeks we’ll be adding seasonal foods and treats to the our emergency food parcels to bring a little joy to our clients.

Thank you for your ongoing support, together we create a strong and supportive community network, truly Multum in Parvo (Much in Little)
