BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

One for the beach – Belinda Jones’ “The Paradise Room”, easy reading.

Easy listening with a double CD of Jane Austen’s “Lady Susan” read by, amongst others, Harriet Walter.

Two murder mysteries – the first from one of my favourite writers- PD James’ “ The Private Patient”, an Adam Dalgliesh detective novel, full of suspense; and secondly, Alex Gray’s “Still Dark” set in Glasgow with a number of plot lines that are skilfully drawn together.

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

A mixed bag, but all enjoyable.  First, an amusing reflection on a busy year of Clarissa Dickson Wright, a true countrywoman, “Rifling Through my Drawers”

Second, Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”, the story of Okonkwo’s great fall, as a young man being compared with his father, a reflection of Igbo culture.

Finally, Tana French’s “The Likeness”, a psychological thriller, well rounded characters, good plot.
