Two from one of my favourite modern day authors – Sebastian Faulks.  The first “Engleby” is narrated by a 1970’s student.  I couldn’t put it down when I read it first some years ago – a good read, but slightly disturbing.

The second “A Week in December” was perhaps not as good as it could have been – set in a week in December in 2007 recounting the lives of seven characters living in London and how they interlink.

Two non-fiction books as well…

“Gardening Tips” by Steve Brookes – might pursue his tip to prevent slugs eating hostas and
”Contract Bridge for Beginners” – not a game I play so can’t comment.

Please feel free to borrow any of the books at the back of the church. If you would like to buy one, please make a donation. Thank you.

We have received two letters from the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland Dr. Sarah Furness PhD informing residents of Rutland of the forthcoming suggestions to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Please read the attached two letters by clicking on the link below…

LL Letter to Councils – Platinum Jubilee Weekend

LL Letter to Councils – Queen’s Green Canopy

Let us know what your views are on how we in our village of Ridlington can contribute to collectively celebrating this amazing milestone.

You may have read in the minutes of the last Parish Council meeting held on September 22nd that it was proposed that a committee, to be responsible for arranging the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, should be formed.

A flyer, for delivery to all households, asking for ideas and volunteers will be produced in due course. Rutland County Council will also be setting up a portal on their website, so this will help us all to keep up to date with what the County of Rutland is doing as they too are amassing ideas and suggestions.

The Parish Councillors would very much appreciate hearing from you. Thank you

Dave Johnson
Chairman

There will be a Ridlington Parish Council Planning meeting held on Wednesday, October 13th at 7:00 pm. This will be held at the Village Hall.

Please click on the following link to access the Agenda for this meeting.

RPC Agenda 13.10.21

All members of the public welcome.

Your continued generosity is much appreciated and as we head into the autumn months it is important that we continue to support the Food Bank, which is doing an amazing job in supporting local families in need – if everyone added one item to their shop we would make an even greater difference.

Items requested include: UHT milk; tinned goods – potatoes, carrots, fruit and meat pies; porridge; cereal bars; noodles; long-life sponge puddings; crackers and cheese biscuits.

Twice monthly collections for the Food Bank will continue until the end of the year.  The collection dates for October are 13th and 27th.

Thank you for your support.

Church Cleaning:
Thank you, this month, to: Julie Hoult; Louise Fox; Suzanne Baines and Ruth Lees.

The church is due for a ‘deep clean’ weeks commencing Monday 27th September and Monday 4th October – if you are able to offer some time to do a little extra cleaning before the winter, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Church Flowers:
Thank you, this month, to: Liz Simpson; Maggie Wilson; Anne Harvey.

Heartfelt thanks are due to the members of the working parties who strimmed, trimmed and cleared the churchyard on Thursday, 2nd and on the morning of Sunday, 5th September. These planned tasks were carried out by Karen Baines, Neil Fairley, Steve, Barney and Joe Fox, David and Anne Harvey, Dave and Shelagh Johnson, John and Jacky Morrell and Richard and Debra Thatcher.

Special thanks to Richard Baines for removing the strimmings and clippings from the site.

A new management plan is being prepared for 2022 for volunteer work parties and will be placed in the church porch so people can identify volunteering opportunities.
