First published in 2001 Michael Moore’s “Stupid White Men” still entertains whilst making a number of serious points. For something completely different why not try “He Has Been Here and Fired a Gun” published to coincide with the 2019 hanging by the Royal Academy of Turner’s Helvoetsluys and Constable’s The Opening of Waterloo Bridge?
Three whodunnits this month – the last Christopher St John Sprigg: “Death of a Queen”, a very different setting from his other novels and, in my opinion, not so well plotted;
“The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder” by C.L. Miller, a promising premise …and finally,
“The Wychford Poisoning Case” by Anthony Berkeley, a founder of the Detection Club, and credited as the book that first introduced psychology to the detective novel.
I enjoyed this one save for the irrelevant corporal punishment scene, a reflection of 1926’s compass, perhaps.

Some people have asked if there could be another Safari Supper. The Village Hall Trustees are happy to organise this for a summer event, but before we get into the finer details we need a minimum of 4 people to host the main course and a further 4 people to host the dessert course both catering for 6 guests. No starter course, but bubbly & nibbles in the village hall before moving off.
If you can host for a course please let Pat Roome know on 01572 821416

“Talking Gardens” invites you to ‘Ridlington Spring Gardens Safari’ on 31st May 2025. This is a community event, not a fundraiser. Your £5.00 ticket will include entry to all the open gardens and refreshments.
2:00 pm START prompt please. Everyone will meet at ‘Hollygate House’ (Chris and Jo) where Prosecco and canapés will be served before exploring the gardens. From 4:30 pm onwards there will be tea, coffee, cream teas and cakes for all to enjoy – and the opportunity to talk about the beautiful gardens.
All attending will receive a ‘safari map’ to minimise the risk of individuals getting lost! It’s a jungle out there…

Price per person £5.00
RSVP by 10th May 2025 to talking.gardens@btinternet.com or let anyone of us know you will be coming.

No dogs other than assistant dogs.
Regrettably none of the gardens are wheelchair friendly.
Other than at the start and end of the event there will be no refreshments available.
There will be no toilet facilities available at any of the open gardens.
We do hope you will join us for what should be a most enjoyable afternoon exploring some of Ridlington’s beautiful gardens.
