RURAL COFFEE CONNECT

Hello,

I work for the Rural Community Council Charity, a local charity supporting rural areas around Leicestershire & Rutland.

As part of this, we are working in partnership with the Rutland Citizens Advice Centre and have been visiting lots of locations in and around Rutland. We have been to many locations and have one more location to book in before our project finishes at the end of September.

We bring along our barista coffee van (https://www.ruralcc.org.uk/coffee/), park in the car park or roadside, set up our gazebo at the van & pop out a couple of chairs, and serve free hot drinks to local residents – this helps overall to reduce loneliness and isolation in the area, creates a lovely area for people to come along and have a chat, and also means that we can help to support people and tell them about what’s on in the local community, and how the Citizens Advice Bureau in Rutland may be able to help them in lots of ways.

We look forward to seeing you at Ridlington Village Hall, Main Street, Ridlington.

RIDLINGTON VILLAGE HALL – UPDATE

Village Hall fundraising social events for 2024

Your Hall needs your support

The Village Hall team of Trustees & helpers are active in setting up events such as coffee mornings, quiz nights, socials at Christmas, garden talks, parties etc. and are always looking for new ideas to bring the village community together and have some fun.

We are very fortunate to have such an iconic place to hold these events, right in the centre of the village, which also acts as a polling station, a collection point for newspapers, a setting for street parties, Morris dancers and a venue for Parish Council meetings.

However, all this comes at a cost.  The Trustees ensure that there are funds set aside for long-term maintenance and day to day expenses – insurance, heating & lighting, water charges, fire checks & fixing things which wear out, all require ongoing income.  This only comes from hiring the Hall on a regular basis.

We need your help to support these efforts, both by coming to join in and/or helping out with organisation, cake baking, setting out tables & chairs, clearing away etc.

If you can help in any way or suggest any fundraising events, please contact Pat Roome on either 01572 821416 or pat.roome@btinternet.com

Please try to attend the Annual Parish Council Meeting on Wednesday, May 15th at 6:00 pm where the Trustees give a report on the previous year and will answer any questions – importantly it is your opportunity to say what you think.

ILLUSTRATED TALK – ‘REMEMBRANCE, RECOGNITION & RECONCILIATION’

‘Remembrance, Recognition & Reconciliation’
World War 2 Bomber Command and the
International Bomber Command Centre

Thursday 18th April 7.00 pm at
Ridlington Village Hall
25 Main Street, Ridlington, LE15 9AU

A one hour illustrated talk by Retired Air Vice Marshall Paul Robinson,

Paul flew Harriers in Germany in the Cold War and served in a number of senior appointments at home and abroad including RAF Wittering before settling in Lincolnshire. He volunteered at the Lincolnshire Bomber Command Memorial Trust Centre in 2012 of which he is a Trustee.

58,000 young men and women of Bomber Command – 60% of total RAF losses were killed taking the war to Nazi Germany. Their sacrifice is now remembered at Lincoln’s International Bomber Command Centre.

Paul will outline Bomber Command’s history and discuss its impact during the Second World War, highlighting the skill, achievements and heroism of its air and ground crews. And how important it is for the nation to have a fitting memorial to commemorate their sacrifice, and recognise the suffering experienced by both sides of the conflict. He will  then describe the Trust’s project and answer any questions.

Tickets £10 pp  includes a glass of wine & nibbles, all money goes to the Trust.

To book a place or for any other information, please contact David Roome 01572 821416  or by email davr333@btinternet.com
